Countdown, Part 2
Monday, 04 June 2007

The countdown is on! Again. Hopefully, this time, we're actually going to start installing. ;-)

I wrote the distributor today and he said that I should have subscriber modules tomorrow. In addition, the company that we are purchasing our new Internet supply from is attempting to schedule the installation of the backhauls in the near future. And, I should be picking up the final items that we need for installs on Friday.

So here's the plan: I would like to have the backhauls in before we start installing. At the latest, I'm hoping that the backups will be up and running by the end of next week (possibly sooner).

While we are waiting to install the backhauls, we will be configuring the subscriber modules and selecting a few for testing. These units are hot off the assembly line and will have the latest hardware (called "P10") from Motorola. We need to make sure that they function well. Unfortunately, brand new hardware can have problems and we'll need to power at least a few of them up and let them run to try to flush out any problems.

If the testing goes well, we will start installs and we will do as many as we can each week until we have everyone connected (at this point we have commitments from fourteen neighbors and several others are considering). Once we get the first round of installs done we'll hold for a bit and let everything settle in. There are always things that come up during a project that can't be anticipated but we'll do our best to handle the issues are they arise.

In other words, things are about to get interesting!
