At this point, zarks.net has 18 subscribers and I expect to do another two installs this week. That will put us at 20! And, one of the remaining units already has a name on it so I only have four units that aren't spoken for.
To find the final four installations I was going to revisit some of the neighbors who seemed interested when I met them but weren't ready to commit. Then, this past week, I realized there are streets I haven't visited and they are easy installs! So, I am going to visit them before I revisit anyone else because it's not really fair to give some a second chance when others haven't had a first. ;-) In any case, I'm hoping to wrap up this first set of installs by no later than the end of September. Then we'll go back through and tweak the network a bit and button everything up for the winter months. There's not really any point in doing installs in our area once the leaves leave because it's tough to know if the link will hold once the leaves return. And, I have a couple of other projects to tackle before the end of the year. The plan is to shut down installations through March 2008. At that point, if there is enough interest (specifically, if I can pre-sell 25 more installations) and it still appears that another lower-cost broadband solution won't be in our area for a few more years, we'll start back up the installations and then close down new installations for good! (Fifty installations will be more than enough to support.) For now...it's time to just a few more neighbors who are interested in high-speed internet and wrap up this phase! |
